Q & A
How active are pandas during the day?
Pandas are slow moving and spend a considerable amount of time eating (up to 16 hours in a 24 hour period!) and sleeping. Though they are not especially graceful, they can be active (especially when younger), and can easily stand on their hind legs. They are often seen somersaulting, rolling, dust-bathing, climbing trees, and swimming.
Thanks to a large wrist bone that functions a bit like a thumb, a panda's hands are surprisingly dextrous, particularly when handling food and caring for their tiny infants.
