Update 4/30/2024- 10:30 am EDT -- The
NWS COOP Weather Station
in East Tawas reports that monthly precipitation for April was 66% (+2.25") above average and the temperature
was 8% (+3.2°) above
average; annual precipitation has been 23% (+2.18") above the long-term average and the
annual temperature has been 17% (+5.1°F) above average. Annual
snowfall for the winter season, has been 24.3" which is 51%
(-24.9") below the annual average, and
the current snow depth is 0". Monthly precipitation for
the
Lake Huron-Michigan Basin through April 29 has been 3.96", which is
51% (+1.33") above average. As of April 29, the average Lake Huron surface water
temperature is 39.9°F compared to 38.9°F last year and an average of
38.1°F. As of 6:10 am EDT, the
NDBC weather buoy located 43 NM east of Oscoda, MI reports that the
air temperature is 42.6°F, the surface water temperature is 39.6°F, the
wind is S at 7 mph and the wave height is 1.0 ft. As of 6:10 am EDT,
the weather buoy located 22 miles Northeast of Alpena, MI reports an air
temperature of 40.3°F, a surface water temperature of 39.0°F, the wind
is E at 4 mph and the wave height is 1.3 ft.
* Lake Huron Water Levels- As of 4/26/24: 4" above the 3/26/24
level; 5" below the 4/26/23 level; 3" above the average for
April;
31" below the 2020 average high for April and 35" above the 1964
average low for April. The level is projected to be 3" higher by 5/26/24. The water level is currently
37.8 inches below it's July
2020 all time high water point.
