Welcome to Mid-Continent Railway Museum

Mid-Continent is an outdoor living history museum and operating railroad recreating, preserving, and interpreting the small town/shortline way of life from the “Golden Age of Railroading.”

Mid-Continent Railway Museum’s 2025 operating season is nearly here!

Aside from our regularly scheduled train rides and museum hours, we have many exciting new and returning special events planned in 2025.

The museum will be open and train rides offered on Saturdays and Sundays, May 17th through June 16th, plus open for Memorial Day.

Starting on June 17th, the museum will be open, and rides offered 6 days a week (closed Mondays) through Labor Day. After Labor Day, the schedule returns to Saturdays and Sundays into the fall, including our ever-popular Autumn Color Weekends and Pumpkin Special rides.

The restoration of Chicago & North Western #1385, Mid-Continent’s signature locomotive, has been taking place at a shop contractor facility near Madison, WI.
